This is the front of the boat. Mackenzie hung out here and listened to her CD's or read (or in one of the chairs in the 'living' area). When it rained she went inside and had Gramma read to her. I think they read 3 or 4 Goosebump books during the trip. Gramma had to drink lots of tea to soothe her throat.

Other times Mackenzie would sit at the table and work on her homework or in some workbooks that we brought with us. I think one day she was at the table almost the whole day.

She even talked me into reading to her in the evening.

One day we were holding the boat on the side of the canal while waiting for another boat to come under a bridge and these cows just all started walking out toward us. Then the stopped at the edge, some drank water, some ate, some layed down. Good thing we were on the other side of the canal.

That is Gramma and Mackenzie at the front of the boat and I am at the back. This is pretty much what it looks like from the area where you steer.

Yes, there were always people popping up and waving up there.

And this is Grampa doing what he did most of the time, steering.

Of course we helped out once in a while, like when we weren't reading, making tea or hot chocolate and the weather was nice (and it didn't require any backing up or turning around).

Except one day, it started out nice, and then out of nowhere a huge rain storm. It rained so hard we could barely see. We were soaked even with our rain stuff on. It lasted less than half an hour.

You can't really tell in the picture but it's really raining hard.
