BATTHYHÁNY SQUARE
We headed off for Lu's last weekend trek and man it was a trek!
We started at Batthyány Square and the Casanova House. Casanova (yeah, the famous one) lived here for awhile while trying the medicinal waters of the Rász Baths, that is until a father ran him off.
This is St. Anne's Church. We could only go into front area and look through the windows in the doors to the inside and it was really nice (we looked in another one down the street and it was Las Vegas gawdy).
The domed hall of the King Bath (it's Turkish) was built in 1566 and the classical wing was built in 1826.
We were looking for the chapel of Baba Gül and passed this cute street whose name happened to be Baba Gül so we headed up. Unfortunately they were doing construction at the top, where if you look closely, is Mackenzie. So we missed the turn and more unfortunate, when you get to the "top" it turns and gets steeper, and continues up about 3 times as far!
After you go up (way up) and around (way around) and up some more steps we found it! Lu was so happy! When we walked down the pathway behind Lu and Baba Gül we could see down to the construction on Baba Street and the small pathway that leads up to the chapel!
The chapel was built between 1543 and 1548 and is carved from stone. Baba Gül (Turkish Saint) belonged to the first generation occupying Buda and set up his monestary here.

OBUDA - ROMAN RUINS
This is the the Roman Amphitheater ruins. The ring is bigger than the ring of the Coliseum in Rome! It could hold between 10-12,000 people.
That's Mackenzie down behind Lu.
We headed to Óbuda next.
These statues are in Fö Square and this is the Town Hall.
This is Aquincum. It's a large excavation site of the civilian town that was created in the first century by craftsmen who moved down from Gellét Hill, and were known as the Eraviscuses who over time eventually became Romans. The settlement grew to more than 10,000 inhabitants and with the threat of Barbarian invasion was deserted by the beginning of the 5th Century.

Here is the little town of Szentendre and the pedestrian zone. Szentendre is a small town outside Budapest and is right on the Danube. There are restaurants, museums and lots of shops.
Very cute place.
Lu left for San Diego on Wednesday September 22, home to the place of English TV commercials and a variety of food!
Hope you enjoyed our treks!
