Reindeer Safari

This is the Reindeer Farm owner (whose name I can't spell or pronounce but it started with a P) and our guide/translator Mikko (he had his arm up because the reindeer kept turning his head and hitting him with his antlers). We first went into a tepee type structure that people used a long time ago. They would construct these because they were easy to put up and take down. They followed the reindeer during the seasons, so moved with them. Then we went into this building, a Kammi.
Inside the Kammi was a central fire with tables and chairs all around. Kind of like a miniature pub. We had some hot berry cider (it was very good) and learned about the way of life of the Lappish people. We saw the boots that they made out of reindeer, the hats they wore, the cups that they made, and stuff like that. Then we went out with some of the reindeer. Mackenzie fed a couple, they'll come to you if you have the food, but shy away from too much touching. They don't have any teeth and they are very soft (their fur, not their gums). The hair on reindeer is hollow to keep them warm.
Then we went on our reindeer ride. They had Mackenzie and I sit down first and handed me one rope and said, "here, to steer" and then we were off. We even got the reindeer to run for a little. Mackenzie lucked out and got to go with David also so she got two rides, but they couldn't get it to run. When we finished, Mikko handed us each our own reindeer driver's license. The picture on the front is the reindeer farm owner and one of his reindeer (obviously).

After that we headed back out on our snowmobiles. Mackenzie sat in front of me on the way back, she could see where we were going and it was a little warmer for her.

On the way back we stopped in the forest to make some Arctic Circle Snow Angels. The snow was so deep that I had to toss Mackenzie into it and I tried to jump backwards from the trail.

Then back over the river, and under the Candlestick Bridge.

When we first got back to the river there were people ice golfing.

Rovaniemi Airport - Santa's Official Airport

We had to leave super early in the morning to make the connecting flight in Helsinki, Finland so it was still dark at the airport.

This was neat, the sign has Budapest to the right of Mackenzie.

It's a cute airport and they had huge snowmen built all over the place.

This was one of the nicest, friendliest and cleanest places that we have visited so far. I recommend it to everyone.

Since Finish is a Finno-Ugric language and only about five million people in the world speak Finnish, most know many other languages and everyone we met spoke English.
