SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 5, 1999
Citadel

We started off pretty much were we ended yesterday.

This is the Chain Bridge (Lion Bridge) from above the tunnel.

After making it through the rest of the Royal Palace we headed over to Gellért Hill. This is the statue of Queen Elizabeth whom the bridge is also named for (it's the bridge in the background).

This waterfall is at the base of Gellért Hill and the Elizabeth Bridge is directly across from here.

This is the Elizabeth Bridge and when it was constructed in 1903 it was the largest suspension bridge in the world.

From the waterfall we walked up a variety of stairs and slopes to the Citadella (to give you an idea, this picture of the bridge was only about 1/3 of the way up). About 1/2 way up is a statue of the St. Gellért who was pushed down the hill in a barrel by the pagens in 1046.

When we finally made it to the top, this was the view. The building with the greenish colored roof on the left is the Royal Palace that we walked from to get here.

This is just another part of the Danube from where we were standing.

This is the Freedom Bridge and we walked back across this after crossing the Elizabeth Bridge to eat at Fat Mo's. We found it no problem, just that it was closed. So we ate somewhere on Vaci Utca and walked out to find ourselves at this bridge, which just happens to be the third bridge down from where we started this morning. If you look down the Danube you can see the Elizabeth Bridge and the Chain Bridge is behind that (where our car was parked)!

Look up in the picture of the view from the Citadella above this and you can see the Elizabeth Bridge and a bridge further down. That's the Chain Bridge!
On to the second weekend - Parliment
